Brick Shoprite Stabbing Victim Was Targeted, Prosecutor Says

BRICK TOWNSHIP — New details are emerging about the horrifying scene that transpired at an Ocean County grocery store.

Officers from the Brick Township Police Department responded to the Shoprite on Route 70 in Brick on Monday night for a report of a male stabbing victim. When officers arrived, they found a 44-year-old male with stab wounds to his back.

The victim, who has not been identified, was transported to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment of his injuries. He is reported to be in critical but stable condition.

Bradley Billhimer, the Ocean County Prosecutor, stressed that the incident is an active and ongoing investigation and urges anyone with information to come forward,“There is no danger to the public at this time, our investigation indicates this was a targeted attack against the victim,” Billhimer stated. “We will release more information as it becomes available,” Billhimer concluded.

Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is urged to contact Detective Lindsay Woodfield of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Officer at 732-929-2027 ext. 4989 or Detective Micheal Bennett of the Brick Township Police Department at 732-262-1122.

Early reports indicated that the victim was a 17-year-old man, but these reports were unsubstantiated. Reports also alleged that the victim had a punctured lung, but this reporting cannot be independently verified by the Ocean County Post.
