LACEY TOWNSHIP — Summer at the Jersey Shore is much more than fun in the sun and giant pieces of pizza at the boardwalk; it’s also drinking and driving. One Ocean County police department has been very busy on the streets taking in drivers that had too much to drink before getting behind the wheel.
According to the department’s weekly blotter, officers with the Lacey Township Police Department responded to four driving while under the influence calls, three of which ended with an accident, over the course of five days.
In the early evening hours on July 16th, officers responded to the area of Chestnut Drive for a report of a driver that was possibly intoxicated. Officers observed the vehicle described by the caller traveling in the area a short time later, before it parked in the driveway of a residence.
Officers approached the vehicle, which was being driven by Scott Corcoran, 57, of Lanoka Harbor. Corcoran was resistant to commands given by the officer and resisted arrest. Corcoran was taken into custody shortly after a scuffle. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Obstruction of Justice, Resisting Arrest, Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, and Terroristic Threats.
The next day officers in the township responded to another driving while under the influence. At 11:21pm on Saturday, July 17th, Linda Kossak, 69, was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated on Route 9 and Clearwater Drive. Kossak allegedly caused a three car crash due to not being able to maintain her lane of traffic. She was ultimately charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, and Failure to Maintain Lane.
On Sunday, July 18th at 10:06pm, Officers responded to another intoxicated driver call involving a motor vehicle crash. Steven M. Weindencamp Jr., 29, was traveling eastbound on Beach Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his motorcycle. Weindencamp ran off the roadway, struck a mailbox and utility pole, which caused the motorcycle to split in half. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Driving.
On Tuesday, July 20th at 10:51 pm, Officers responded to the drive thru of a restaurant on Route 9 in Lanoka Harbor for a report of a motor vehicle crash. While en route to the scene, one of the vehicles involved in the crash left the scene; the vehicle was found in a nearby parking lot. Eric Jabloniski, 33, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. He was also issued multiple traffic summonses.
