Jackson Man Locked Woman In Room To Sexually Assault Her: Police

A Jackson Township man has been arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman on Thursday, November 19th. 

Officers from the Jackson Township Police Department responded to the Pushkin Memorial Home on Pushkin Road around 2:57 p.m. for a report of a sexual assault that just occurred. 

The unidentified female victim met responding officers as they arrived on the scene. She told officers that she went to the residence to meet with a male subject who then led her into a room in the residence. The male subject then locked the door and took out an edged weapon and demanded that the female victim perform sexual acts with him.

As the incident progressed, the female victim informed the suspect that one of her friends was waiting outside in a car. The suspect then fled the scene and the victim was able to get out of the room. 

The suspect, Rashiiva Shorter, 40, of Jackson, was observed walking on Crescent Avenue a short time later and was taken into custody by patrol officers and detectives. 

Shorter was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Criminal Restraint, and Aggravated Sexual Assault.
